My Words
Treating me
Bad
Getting in
Trouble
Sometimes they burst
Like a bubble
They come as a surprise
Though sometimes they are
Nice
They inspire me to a whole
New world
They get me there
My life LIVES

My words my words
Coming out of the blizzard
Of snow of the
Grass and people

My words telling my brother
what to do
my words are my words
my words are cool
they come out of me

they never say anything wrong
my words!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

City Of Landscape

Leaves flowing in the sky
People wondering if the skies are blue and the sun is shiny bright
Knowing that their pets are safe and that their children are playing in delight
Discovering a beautiful new place giving nature a great day and night
Having a fantastic trip with the family around a discovered new place
Maybe darkens wins our happiness
Though the beautiful happiness always comes back in the most charming way

1) The towers of Chicago are big as the sky .
2) The twin towers in NEW YORK were twin as brothers.
3)The towers I see are nice.
4)The towers I saw convinced me to make one.
5)The tower I made in 02/13/08 looked like !@#$%^&*() to tell you the truth.
6)The only tower I haven’t seen is Eiffel tower.

CITY OF CHICAGO

The city of Chicago is huge.
In the winter there’s a lot of cold air.
Some people love this city
And others don’t.
The city of Chicago has a lot of lakes.
My Chicago is very different from yours.
My Chicago is were people die, is there’s many violence.
Your Chicago is were you only want to care for yourself.
If I could do something I would change everything.
I see many gang members, accidents,
funerals. How people say in this world we have to die, because if we don’t we won’t fit. Sometimes life could hurt, stink, and suck.

KNOWLEDGE
KNOWLEDGE
KNOWLEDGE
This city is full of
Knowledge.
Because we have
Lots of museums with
Lots of bones
And signs
And aquariums with
Lots of fish
And signs
So that is why it’s a
CITY OF KNOWLEDGE!

I Am Poem
by Salvador S., age 12

I AM A BOY.
I AM NOT BORED.
I AM NICE.
I AM NOT A SELFISH BOY.
I AM CURIOUS.
I AM NOT EVIL.
I AM SMART.
I AM NOT MEAN TO MY SURROUNDINGS.
I AM INTENT TO PLAY VIDEOGAMES.
I AM NOT LAZY.
I AM MY LEGO TOYS.
I AM NOT GOOD AT HOMEWORK.
I AM MORE SKINNY THAN FAT.
I AM NOT A GOOD EATER EXCEPT AT THE CHINESE BUFFET.

Inspired by Nikki Giovanni’s poem “Woman,” I asked the students to write poems talking about the things that they are, and the qualities that they possess, both real and metaphorical. Marisol’s poem is below; more to follow.

My I’m
Marisol D., age 12

I’m a sun
I’m not too perfect
I’m a bright star
I’m not that dumb
I’m a sunflower
I’m not a smelly fish
I’m like the sea of course
I’m not that smart
I’m a sky
I’m not the grudge
I’m a little cute
I’m not a model
I’m a smarty-pants
I’m not a nerdy
I’m kind of fat
I’m not skinny
I’m athletic
I’m not lazy
I’m so cool
I’m not bored
