My Feelings
by Gaby S., age 10

My feelings
You will see me
and as you do
you’ll think I’m
happy . But my
insides feel
different. And so
my feelings shall
travel through
time and space
asleep but shall
never be
awakened. If they
are so I will fee!

This poem was inspired by reading “Little Clown, My Heart” by Sandra Cisneros. Also, I would like to welcome Ruba, one of our new students in the afterschool Poetry Club.

My heart is a pumpkin
Ruba F., age 11

My heart is a pumpkin just like Halloween
It reminds me of skeletons
And then I’m going to scream
My heart is my life
And it also kills me
Just like my brother

Sister who like to dance
and ask who will dance with
her
Whose hair is so soft
Who always looks out for
people
Who keeps me safe
Who takes off like a plane
Who is fast like a car
Is like a pug running free
Is like a pit-bull fighting
with other dogs
Who dances on a dance
floor asking who will
dance with her?

This poem was inspired after reading “Abuelito Who” by Sandra Cisneros.
